Archaeology Days

Archaeology brings the past to life and sparks the imagination of both young and old. Excavations awaken our curiosity about the stories buried in the landscape. How did people live in the past? What did their surroundings look like?

During the Archaeology Days (Archeologiedagen in Dutch), everyone involved in archaeology opens their doors to let the public explore this fascinating field, even places that are usually closed to visitors. Each year, local organisers create their unique programmes, all under the shared banner of the Archeologiedagen.

The soil beneath our feet holds countless stories. Archaeology helps us bring them to light. Explore what once happened in the Geopark and discover the richness of this cross-border region through adventurous, educational, or playful activities. Join a guided walk, visit an exhibition, attend a lecture, or roll up your sleeves and get hands-on!

Activities take place over several days in various locations across Flanders and the Netherlands. In Belgium, the Archeologiedagen are held during the fourth weekend of May. In the Netherlands, the Nationale Archeologiedagen take place during the third weekend of June. You can also find educational resources on topics like archaeology, climate change, nature, and culture on the respective websites.
